I don't buy it. What a nightmare that would be if just touching that area of the iPod took you back to the home screen. (Even the MacBook trackpads require a physical 'click' in order to register.) This would be a usability disaster.
A MacBook trackpad does NOT need a click to register.
You can change the settings so that you do not need to click at all, it simply takes your touch as a click. I use it in this way all the time, I NEVER click the touchpad.

I agree with you. New CPU, memory, cameras, etc are enough of a bump. You don't need it completely redesigned it's only been a freaking year.

Just saw this thread, so I figured I'd share some knowledge (been gaming for 8 years).
So the reason why people are avoiding these things like the plague is because they STINK. The Intel chipsets ARE more powerful than the NVIDIA 320M, BUT, that doesn't always equal better performance.
Game developers usually design games on nvidia chipsets (Hence, "Nvidia: The way it's meant to be played) slogan.
Although the 3000HD shows better specs, it's been proven to perform worse in game. The reason being that the drivers are total rubbish. Until they can improve the drivers, it's a downgrade. But then again.............who in their right mind would try and game with a laptop!? ;)

YOU WILL GET DIFFERENT IMAGES IF YOU USE A 200mm EF Lens on a 7D (APS-C) and a 200mm EF-S lens on that same camera due to the FOVCF
Go and try it and come back...

The MBA currently sold is a solid contender in and of itself. It has the perfect set of features already for me. The only things I'd want :
- higher resolution screen. 13", 1920x1200. Do it.
- Better GPU/CPU combo. No SB + Intel crap, gimme nVidia with newer generation processors. Intel should just get out of the GPU business.
- USB3 only to get a 1 Gbps USB Ethernet adapter. But that's candy.
Otherwise, keep it like it is.

Does anybody know if the push is applied to chat messages when the messages toggle is on? Does it only apply to the messages that arrive in your inbox? Also, could someone explain what Facebook gathers from your phone during sync? I would rather not give any information that compromises anything my friends would like to keep out of the hands of Facebook.

I'm a bit confused, because, I can't update the EFI ... I strictly followed the instructions. Poweron while holding the power button... then some secondes after speed flashs of the led (I mean stroboscopic) and then just a long BIIIIIP and normal boot after that ...

I didn't say it was wholly genetic, nor do the authors of the book to which I linked. However, to accept without question that we inherit a myriad of traits from our parents (hair color, eye color, height, predisposition to certain diseases, the list goes on) but discount intelligence from that group is foolish in the extreme.
Of course intelligence has a genetic element, and not everyone is equal. However, your intellectual potential may be limited by your genes but you need the correct environment to achieve that potential.
Is it that certain races have a lower intelligence? Or is it that certain races don't get the opportunity to achieve their potential due to their environment?
The problem with IQ tests is they depend on culture and education, they are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I bet an IQ test of 10 year olds in down-town Bagdad would yield lower results to a test in a the suburbs of a US or European city. Clearly this is an extreme example, but it is hard to get a level playing field to assess intelligence in different people.

I think what we are all seeing is that the differentiating factor between Apple and "the others" is no longer software. Windows 7 is now good enough that it can easily compete with (and in many areas, exceed) the software offering on any Mac.
It's now down to hardware manufacturers to do the work to bring their machines up to a standard to match the OS. From what I've seen Dell have been making significant improvements in recent months and years and Lenovo still exudes quality.
Three or four years ago I wouldn't have considered anything that wasn't made by Apple. But now I'd definitely look at a Windows machine first when replacing my desktop and I'd give some Windows laptops a lot of consideration as well.

Why do you say 2000 people is not a large enough sample? Do you know statistical sampling methods?
I'm not saying this survey isn't flawed... just sample size doesn't have to be that large.
It seems that most people are not aware of the fact that 30 is large enough sample for almost any population, and that the main challenge is not in increasing the sample size, it's in making it truly random.

The Macintosh SE has a 68000 processor which limits it to the StyleWriter series (I think up to the StyleWriter II works on it). Laser printers are different and to my knowledge all LaserWirters will work on a Mac SE.
THe Mac SE can have up to Mac OS 7.5.5, which includes the LaserWriter 8 driver and other LaserWriter Drivers.
It depends on what ports are available on your LaserWriter. Tell us the model name.

Yeah, tell me about it (looks down at my Quad). But honestly, I think it will suck even more for Adobe, as they are really limiting themselves in the market that they can reach. Come on Adobe, it wouldn't be THAT hard to code according to Apple's Universal standards, would it?
If the CS3 situation is any example, then Adobe would have you believe the answer to that question is "YES". ;)

Just picking a couple posts here to illustrate that it helps if you are looking for something that is at all plausible.
Its quite simple
-A 15" version
-with larger battery capacity (5 hours heavy usage instead of 3)
-2 USB 3.0 ports
-and a built in 4G internet connection.
Then the MBA would be unbeatable.
Sorry, but a 15" MacBook Air would confuse the market too much - you're going to have to wait for the lines to merge in a year or two on that one. Already the 11.6" MBA is being referred to as the true expression of what a MBA is - sacrifice almost everything to the gods of Small and Light. A 15" would be an anachronism. Your larger battery will also have to wait for the likely MBP/MBA merger.
USB3 won't appear on an Apple product until Intel integrates it into their chipset, and that won't happen until Ivy Bridge. Thunderbolt is a given, however, and adapters will give you access to USB3 devices and bandwidth.
I suspect that Apple will point you towards an iPad if integrated 3G/4G is something you can't live without - they can justify producing extra SKUs for multiple carriers in an iPad-sized market, but not for the much smaller MBA market.
There have been many intel gpu based machine that had 1600x900 res displays, like the C2D Vaio Z or some of the offerings from Lenovo. I don't see why apple can't give such a res with to the 11.6in MBA with a 350nit display and wide color gamut. Then just add and SD card slot, make the usb ports 3.0 and a maybe even add a thunderbolt port and I'd be the first in line to get one.
There are already people complaining about difficulty reading from an 11.6" MBA screen, so higher resolution seems like a non-starter until they can get much higher-res screens in production (think 2x current res) that will allow them to scale screen elements to keep UI controls at the current size while giving higher user data resolution. Also, given the market that the MBA is selling to (mostly general-use, with low weight the overwhelming concern), Apple is unlikely to source a higher-gamut (and higher-priced) screen when most of the market doesn't even know what 'gamut' means.
