DVD's are cheap, people have DVD drives makes sense to have it available as ONE of the formats. Why do users other than MBA owners need to have it come on a thumb drive?

Glad to see Apple's share is increasing
Everyone deserves to use a Mac (if they choose too)

and the more Macs around the more people will see them
they more they see. the more they are aware of them.

    I don't think so.

I think clear photo's showing calipers proves they are the same.

The poor photo's with zero depth of field and a stick off the side to compare thickness doesn't cut it.

Get them to put the calipers to it.

Some Apple big guy says don't believe all the junk your read, and that clinches it for me. It's pretty much an Apple statement telling you that they are the same.

So you still believe engadget on this?

(if there is some production issue like a swelling lipo battery, then I could see thickness issues, but it's a huge mistake if they made it different thickness. What the heck would I do with my iPhone4 dock?)

tipb used calipers and found a difference. Otterbox also says there are compatibility issues. They're in the business of selling cases, they wouldn't tell customers not to buy them for no reason. If it's not supposed to be thicker, then there are a few possibilities I can think of:

    1) There was a bad batch that went around. The white iPhone certainly seemed to have its hiccups - many of them came a with a test version of the OS

    2) Apple revised *all* iPhone 4s, and the only reason people are noticing a difference is because they compared to a near launch phone. It'd be interesting to compare a black one from the same week.

well.. I was a sucker hoping for an authentic kit. My wife really wanted a white iphone, and I bought this kit to convert a regular one as an x-mas gift.

Apple has nothing to worry about. These pieces are not from Apple.. they're friggin plastic. Filing a dispute with paypal and my CC now.

If your Mac is slower than a PC for any reason on the same application it is because the software hasn't been optimized for the Mac. Write the software developer before you complain about the Mac speed. Get them to develop for Altivec. It makes a world of difference.

    No chance.

Most applications that can take advantage of Altivec already do, there's a lot of processes that can't benefit from Altivec at all and that's where the G4 is getting beaten senseless.

Even Altivec itself is crippled by the bus speed.

The G4 achieves 1.3Gb/s on the dual 1Ghz G4 with the 167Mhz Front Side Bus.

Remembering that there's 8 bits in a byte and memory is 64 bit the Mb/s of the FSB works out as follows :

(100 / 3) x 5 = 166.666 this is just the precise way of calculating the bus speed

    64 bit / 8 = 8 bytes

    8 x 166.666Mhz = 1.333 GB/s

Remembering that 1.3Gb/s is the most the system controller can transfere to either CPU, altivec is hardly getting any of the juice it needs at all with the current G4 design.

Assuming we're still talking about that dual Ghz G4, Altvec works out like this :

    (128 / 8) x 1000Mhz = 15.625 Gb/s

It's only getting a measly 1.3Gb/s, hardly what it needs.

Plus both CPUs and both Altivec units have to share the same 167Mhz FSB to transfere data to and from main memory.

Even though the L2 and L3 cache have a lot to play in getting around the FSB bottleneck, that's 1.3Gb/s of bandwidth shared between cpus and SiMD units that require a total of 33.85Mb/s.

If you're working on data that's less than 256K it fits in the L2 cache and there's no bottleneck, anything bigger than that and it's either got to fit in the L3 which is half the required bandwidth or it's coming from main system memory with that tiny 1.3Mb/s of bandwidth.

Have you looked at the Chrysler 200 convertible. It's pretty sharp but not as "macho" as the camaro or challenger. I had a sebring years ago, and loved it even though it was iffy as far as "quality." Still, probably the best convertible I've ever had. I rented a g6 hardtop convertible and it was great other than the tiny trunk.

No offense, but that is one ugly car and far too conservative for me. If I was married off and had kids, sure. ;)

Have you really not heard of Leona Lewis? I'm always suspicious of people who wear this kind of statement as a badge of pride...

    people are computers

OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING ALREADY!!!

if people are constantly being told that this music, is the new thing, then sooner or later they will buy it. rather then making music a personal choice, they buy what ever is on radio.

I take your point, but it's not necessarily a bad thing for humanity that we share common tastes and interests.

When the hell is Apple going to seed leopard to us select developers? Also an update of the WWDC videos would be nice. It sucks when you get hospitalized and can't recover in TIME to go to WWDC.

Why are you asking here? Why not call Apple developer relations and ask them?

It annoys me that I pay for this treatment, yet Microsoft is more than happy to release all kinds of pre beta stuff to me just for signing up as a developer.

Microsoft is also more than happy to charge through the teeth for decent developer tools too.

Is is just me, or is Pages one of the worst apps that Apple has put forth recently?

Designing a newsletter has proven to be one of the worst computing catastophes that I have had in recent years. Pages erased my work multiple times, even after I had saved it. Also, the way the program formats is terrible; Apple has caught the Word syndrome of trying to help you so much with Word processing - guessing what you want to do and doing it for you - that it makes you want to pull your hair out. I also find the interface very counter-intuitive (highly surprising for an Apple app)

Sorry for the rant, but I just lost a lot of money and time because of this half-baked program, and I have to let it out. I had high hopes for Pages and am sorely disappointed. And I thought that only Microsoft could push my buttons like this...

Yeah Somalia has been at war for years and their technology has utterly skyrocketed.

Fun fact: LED TV's were invented during wartime because our soldiers in Afghanistan were tired of hauling their 50 inch tube tv's through the desert.

Those are all blanket statements that could be wrong depending on what example you use. IE the best Medical sensor out there is the MRI and it wasn't invented to detect bombs. Actually if you try to use an MRI to detect a bomb, there's a good chance you'll blow yourself up.

    Doesn't cancer immediately threaten lives?

If you're going to present an argument, try not to reach to the bottom of the barrel and take it out of context.

First of all, obviously the war we are talking about when large nations take part in it, not gang skirmishes.

And besides all the historic military budget devoted to the "timeline of LED emergence", here's a recent DARPA accomplisment over the period of 10 years. That's right...since 2001! Afghanistan invasion!

Obviously I'm just making a generalized argument and not talking about all "medical sensors" that exist.

And I don't know what world you live in, but most ppl I've ever met never thought they would get cancer. Or at least not until they are very old when many ppl get it anyway b4 they die. Certainly not young ppl and in a couple of years.

No, I said and say nothing of the sort. What I said is that it sounds like the Counsumerist talked to a call center employee who didn't know what was actually going on. The Consumerist was not lying, nor was AT&T lying; the call center employee wasn't even lying...s/he was just talking out of his or her ass. Call center employees are underpaid and under-trained, and half the time I think they're just trying to BS their way through the day. It has happened many times before that a low-level employee who is not even close to the loop has said something that has to be walked back by management. Always such things become gospel and remain fodder for conspiracy theorists. This strikes me as one of those cases.

This was the correct answer on the first page. The thread should have ended there tbh.

Call Centre staff are given a set of answers to the most common problems that occur and they aren't paid enough to troubleshoot a problem (in fact their performance is usually judged by how many queries they can handle in a day). They will simply give the first answer they can find from their list that sounds like it answers the query.

That $130k will all go to the lawyers, even if he is able to establish that he has a legal "right" to sell those parts, and I think that'll be a challenge.

Yeah, that's the sad part; lawyers will walk away with all the profit. How absurd is that?

I suppose if these casings were literally thrown away by Apple, and he's able to prove it, then it wouldn't be any different than those people who go through the bins and pawn off the treasures they find... Mind you, I don't know whether that's legal either.

Oh yea, that evidence is so convincing...sugar for flies, wow. It definitely still applies to humans and this situation as all metaphorical cliches are so undeniably true
Of course it applies. Your assinine response has me thinking you're a jerk. Had you responded in a positive manner, even if disagreeing, my opinion of you would be entirely different. How's that for a simple real life example? Positivity is always preferable to negativity.
